The power... of renovation!

Installing a chimney range hood

installerHotteCheminee-main A chimney range hood is made of two distinct parts: the base, which contains the motor of the appliance, and the chimney, which hides the ventilation ducts.

Installation of a chimney range hood:

The hole that allows the ventilation ducts to vent the air to the outdoors must be located in the chimney portion of the appliance. If you are trading a regular range hood for this model, you may have to cut a new hole at the right height.

In the following situation, the appliance has been installed on an interior wall. A hole was thus made in the ceiling for the ducts to reach outdoors through the attic.

Materials required: chimney range hood and the necessary installation material (supplied by the manufacturer); duct tape; flexible ventilation duct.

Tools required: level; drill.

How-to: Cut off power. Remove the old range hood.

installerHotteCheminee-1 Decide where to place the chimney range hood by holding it up in the desired area. If necessary, ask the help of someone else to hold it against the wall. Use a level to ensure the base is level. Mark the future location of the anchors and the power supply.

installerHotteCheminee-2 Fasten the anchors supplied by the manufacturer on the marks you drew in step 2. Make sure you have access to the electric wires you need to connect the range hood.

installerHotteCheminee-3Insert the electric wires in the hole cut out to that effect at the back of the range hood. Remember to use a grommet so that the electricity does not come into contact with the metal of the range hood. Ask an electrician to connect the appliance according to the instructions of the manufacturer.

installerHotteCheminee-4 Place the base of the range hood on the anchors and secure it with the screws supplied by the manufacturer.

installerHotteCheminee-5 Install the check valve at the end of the ventilation duct using duct tape. If the size of the old ducts is in accordance with the recommendations of the manufacturer, you can reuse them. Otherwise, you need to change them for the appliance to work at its full potential.

installerHotteCheminee-6 Fasten the chimney support on the wall, placing it against the ceiling. Use the marks you drew during step 1 to install it in the right spot.

installerHotteCheminee-7 Place the chimney over the base of the range hood. Slide the removable part of the chimney up to the ceiling and, using the screws provided by the manufacturer, secure it on the support you fastened in the previous step.
