7 ways to enhance your walls

I LOVE YOUR ACCENT

An accent wall is an easy way to create a WOW effect in a room. Well done, it draws the eye and sets the stage for the entire decor. To achieve a final result that stands out, use every day items in an unexpected way to give personality to the room.

1. COLOR ZONING

1. COLOR ZONING

The easiest and most affordable way to make a wall stand out is paint. For a more modern look, avoid painting the entire wall. Select a wall section and use a vibrant color or paint a geometrical pattern such as stripes or squares to make it pop.

2. CUT-AND-PASTE

2. CUT-AND-PASTE

I LOVE the new wallpapers that are available on the market! Not only are they stylish and modern, they often come with peel-and-stick technology for easy application and removal. No more glue or water messes. Simply peel off the protective film, stick the wallpaper on the wall and cut it.

3. ALL ABOUT WOOD

3. ALL ABOUT WOOD

Recycled pallets, barn wood... In 2016 wood is still everywhere in our homes and on our walls to create warm and welcoming decors. To make life easier, I like using peel-and-stick boards made out of real wood. No more complicated installations! Thanks to this product, anyone can install a wood wall.

4. MOLD YOUR STYLE

4. MOLD YOUR STYLE

Using geometrical patterns is a decoration trend that has been very popular these past few years. An interesting way to adopt this trend is to use mouldings to create three-dimensional patterns on a wall. Painted the same color as the wall they stand on, mouldings create a very subtle design and give depth to the room.

5. UNIQUE STORAGE

5. UNIQUE STORAGE

I love when design and purpose combine, especially in small spaces where every inch matters. Although shelves are a good way to create an interesting design, don't hesitate to think out of the box. Use items in an unexpected way. Here, the vintage crates add storage space while making a really unique statement in the room.

6. ANYTHING BUT EXPECTED

6. ANYTHING BUT EXPECTED

Make a unique and original statement on your walls with materials that were not intended to be used for decoration. Think corrugated metal panels, floor rugs hung or framed on the wall, plywood panels, cedar shingles on a wall section... The possibilities are endless.

7. NEW GENERATION PANELS

3D panels have invated the market these past few years... And I love it! They are easy to install and they add texture to a wall in no time. I like that they are available in both modern and traditional patterns that will stand the test of time like pannelling.

INSPIRED ADVICE

1. Plan

Plan! Do your research, estimate costs and establish your budget. Good planning is the key to a successful renovation project.

2. Timeless neutrals

For main and secondary colors, go for timeless neutrals. Keep trendy colors for accents. This way, you will be able to change your accessories regularly to update your decor.

3. Patterns

Find a pattern you like to add texture to your room. Whether you go for an animal print or a geometrical pattern, this personnal touch will help you make the space your own.

4. Inspirational board

Start an inspirational board to guide you in your choice of materials and colors. It can be an actual board or it can be a virtual one. The goal is to help you define your style and make the right choices.

5. Three colors

My foolproof decoration recipe: create a 3-color palette for your room (one main color, a secondary color and an accent color) and stick to one type of metal and one type of wood.
